As part of Koç Holding's Low-Carbon Transition Project and "Yapı Kredi Bankası" A.Ş.'s sustainability goals, "Yapı Kredi Bank Azerbaijan" has obtained the IREC – Green Energy and Carbon Neutral certificates to offset consumption within Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions.
What are the IREC and Carbon Neutral Certificates?
The Carbon Neutral certificate enables the conditional elimination of greenhouse gas emissions by financially supporting projects aimed at reducing emissions in the atmosphere.
Power plants that generate energy from solar, hydroelectric, and wind sources can sell not only electricity but also the "Green Energy Attribute" under the IREC standard. Any company can support green energy production by financing the equivalent of its annual consumption from these facilities.
Companies that do not consume renewable energy but own internationally recognized certificates demonstrate their commitment to sustainability by achieving "Net Zero" and "Carbon Neutral" status, fulfilling social responsibility obligations, and supporting green energy producers.
As a result, in 2022, we "offset" 209 tons of CO₂ emissions under Scope 1 and "greened" 1,527 MW of electricity under Scope 2.
Yapı Kredi Bank Azerbaijan is the first bank in the country to receive the ISO 14001:2015 certificate. Improving environmental indicators, contributing to the fight against climate change, and minimizing environmental impact are among our key objectives. The bank has also committed to contributing to the global economy and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals based on the universal principles of the UN Global Compact.
